The 10th Armored Division was part of General George Patton's 3rd Army. III Corps at Fort Hood carries on the tradition of 3rd Army. During the Christmas of 1944, General Patton provided each soldier of the 3rd Army with the following Christmas card:
Pop Pop was a part of "Big Red One", the transportation logistics group under General Patton in the 3rd Army. This group was loaned to different groups during the war, which is one reason why he served in so many different outfits including the 103d and 90th Infantry Divisions, and 10th Armored Division.
